Botanical Still Life-Original painting by Catherine Nolin

I spent Sunday working on this painting and was able to finish it today.  I felt very guilty in my studio all day yesterday while my husband raked the yard and then went on a hike alone. .  It was 60 degrees you know.  As I painted I kept thinking about the snow and cold and how hard it makes everything.  I thought about my mother who won’t be able to go out much once winter really sets in.  I guess that’s why I felt compelled to paint  a bouquet of flowers.

This piece  is 8x10 painted with acrylics on stretched canvas.  The sides have been painted so no frame is needed.  Wired and ready to hang. 

                             

Garden Bouquet

I am very excited about my new painting.  I was very much inspired by the Dutch painter of the late 1500’s  Ambrosius Bosschaert.  Absolutely breath taking still lifes.   I don’t usually do traditional compositions but I really enjoyed painting this vase with flowers.  I may do a few more.  This painting is 11x14 painted on stretched canvas.   The sides have been painted so no frame is needed.

Thinking Of What Sarah Said.

Don't ask me why I am using this title. I do love Death Cab for Cutie.  This song was playing at one point when I was painting.  I guess that explains it!  Not ready for more snow tomorrow.   I feel badly for seniors especially.  My mom can't really get out in  this weather.  Good thing she has six daughters and one son to  keep her busy with phone calls and visits. Letting Go

In between my more serious and epic paintings I enjoy throwing in a whimsical, care free piece here and there. It gives me a chance to experiment with color, pattern and texture plus I saw a Matisse painting (not in person) this morning that put me over the edge. I just love peonies and every year I say I am going to buy some to plant in my garden but I am always too busy painting and forget. This little number is 9x12 and done on stretched textured linen. Sitting Lilly

My newest painting, "Sitting Lilly." This piece is 8x10 done with acrylic paints on stretched cotton/linen. Ever since I returned from Sicily, I have been in an orange faze. I especially love it against the turquoise tones in this painting. There is just something about orange calla lilies. One Less Bell To Answer

This new painting is 11x14 done with acrylic paints on stretched linen and cotton. I just finished this about 10 minutes ago and photographed it with out natural light in my studio. I plan on taking another better photo in the morning. I am very happy and excited about this painting.

Makes Me Wonder

I just read a great article on painters and what makes a great painting etc. The writer mentioned that an artist needs to ask why. Why do I paint this subject? Why do I paint this way?

My answer. I paint interiors, rooms full of still life objects in which I trying to create a narrative. I love to combine color, patterns and objects in a captivating and contemplative way.

I am leaving for Sicily in two days and yet I paint a  Greek themed piece.  I saw a photo with a greek style urn and that inspired me.   Anyway, Greece is very close to Sicily! 

Flood Gates

I am very excited about this new painting. I think I gave it a perfect title. It could be another self portrait also. The dimensions are 24x30 on stretched cotton/linen. I have always loved collages and vibrant colors. I'm in an orange faze. There's a lot to take in. As my husband says to me all the time, "breathe." Sometimes I forget.
