Sleeping Tiger

Just got back from a sister's weekend at the Cape. As many of you know I have five older sisters, and one younger brother. It was a year ago last week that we all went to Sicily, so we decided to have a reunion. I hate to sound cliche but I can't believe how quickly time goes by.

I began this small painting last week before I left and just now finished it. What can I say, I love cats especially tiger striped ones. We always had one growing up. Here I really wanted to work with multiple patterns and lots of contrast. This piece is 8x10 painted with acrylic paints on stretched cotton and linen. Letting Go

In between my more serious and epic paintings I enjoy throwing in a whimsical, care free piece here and there. It gives me a chance to experiment with color, pattern and texture plus I saw a Matisse painting (not in person) this morning that put me over the edge. I just love peonies and every year I say I am going to buy some to plant in my garden but I am always too busy painting and forget. This little number is 9x12 and done on stretched textured linen. Air,Sea, Earth

When i paint an interior scene, i enjoy painting the rug design the most. I love creating the motifs and color patterns. I think it was Paul Gauguin who said that everything you need to know about color and design is found in an oriental rug. This is my version of an oriental rug. I included birds, animals, fish and flowers through out the design. This painting is 16x20 done on stretched cotton and linen. BTW I think the angle I held my camera made it look a little uneven but the real thing isn't!

Queen Of Hearts

Every time I see a deck of cards, it reminds me of being 10 years old, playing Slap Jack or Crazy Eights on a towel at Seabrook beach. Instead of paying attention to the cards I was dealt, I was busy looking at the intricate designs of the King, Jack and Queen. Some cards are quite beautiful.

Birds In Paradise

This is my latest painting. I have uploaded the largest view of this image so you can see all the detail. I have been forever influenced by William Morris. His work makes my heart jump when ever I see it. This is the first in a series of decorative style pattern paintings. I can see this design as wallpaper in my home. Dark Horses and Ranunculus

Here is another painting I finished today. I guess I have horses on the brain. They are such a sweet, elegant animal. Also, I just signed up Sam for riding therapy. It's funny how things pop up in my paintings from my subconscious.

Sonata

This painting measures only 5x7 on stretched gallery wrapped canvas and needs no framing. The piano is my favorite instrument maybe because one of my older sisters was quite a pianist. I grew up listening to her practice for years. No matter what I was doing homework, talking on the phone you could hear the classical notes start and stop in the background. I often include pianos in my paintings. I love the lines of a baby grand.

Double Act

Matisse has always been one of my favorites. I love the colors and the patterns and subject matter.

I have just completed 6 new paintings. I am ready to get back to work and try some new things now. This piece is 8x10 on stretched cotton/linen.

Something New

Just off the easel. I have been walking a lot lately and really noticing the beautiful landscapes all around me. The flowers even now are still so vivid and rich against the fall foliage. I am very happy with this new piece. 8x10/ $250
