My last painting

Tomorrow, God willing, I will be wrapping up this new painting that I am quite excited about.  This is just a cell phone shot,  which doesn't capture the detail, shadows and depth of colors .   We leave a week from Thursday (my birthday)  for Italy! We will be visiting my son Maxwell in Florence and then off to Chianti as well as Cinque terre.   Scott and I have never traveled so far together because  of Sam but my awesome oldest son will hold down the fort for the time we are away.
This is my last painting for a while.    I wanted to create a  classic interiors with a favorite narrative. I have put many long hours into this painting I've lost track.  Some of the furniture is from Get The Gusto ~an amazing shop of art, objects and furniture in Florida.

Donatella's Arrival~New Work

I have so much to say about this painting.  First of all, I wish you could see her in person because again,  my photograph does not fully capture the details.  I was definitely inspired  by some Frida Kahlo paintings  as well as vintage fashion photography.  Love Pinterest!   I wanted to bring together my love of flowers, with textiles, and fashion.  People often ask me who the women are in my paintings.  I have no idea~they just evolve but  all look a bit similar I think. Going forward I plan on doing more work that reflects my Italian heritage.   This painting is 20x24 painted on a cradled birch wood panel.  The sides are painted to match therefore it can be left unframed if desired.  Thank you for looking.  Catherine

Restoration Gray-new original painting

Today as I sat at my easel finishing up this piece today,  I couldn't help but smile.  Yesterday I was at Mass General Hospital in Boston taking my son Sam for a rather uncomfortable G.I. procedure.  It was very chaotic and  stressful but very necessary.   Here I am today lost in color and the peaceful atmopshere of my studio,  listening to George Winston and Leo purring on top of a pile of old magazines.  I love my job!
This is my newest painting.  It's 11x14 painted with acrylics on stretched canvas.  Thanks for looking.

A door opens to me. I go in and am faced with a hundred closed doors. ~Antonio Porchia, Voces, 1943, translated from Spanish by W.S. Merwin

Pairing my paintings with inspirational quotes has become a daily ritual for me, especially lately.  I will be posting some new work in a few weeks.  For now this is a piece I did for a dear customer in Boston many years ago.  Have a wonderful weekend.   Thanks for stopping by.  Catherine.

Tree Of Life III new original painting by Catherine Nolin

Today is my youngest son Samuel's 18th birthday.  It's hard to believe.  For those of you who don't know about Sam he was diagnosed with autism and a few other medical conditions when he was two.  It's difficult to put into words how I feel today. Life has been a bittersweet emotional roller coater so far.  Sam has touched so many lives without ever knowing.  His very exsistance  has brought couple's together, made us experts on alternative medicine and diet, taught compassion, acceptance and to never take anything for granted.
I painted this Tree of Life because Sam has so much life to live and things to learn.  I will think positively about  him during this new year,  full of growing and healing.  This new painting is 20x16 painted on stretched canvas.  Available for sale in my Etsy shop  www.catherine47.etsy.com

Staying In~Original Painting

I tried to finish this piece before it got too dark outside so I could take a good photo. I managed to finish in time buts since it's a gray rainy day, it's just too dark to get a good shot but here is the" low light version."  I'll re shoot tomorrow in better conditions.
Our little kitty Leonardo is trying to get outside any chance he gets but we have decided for his own safety  that he can't be an outside cat. We will bring the outside to him !  This painting is 14x11 painted on stretched canvas.

The beautiful weather this week so far has inspired me although I must admit I haven 't  been out much except to walk Abbey and go to the post office!  These flowers are truly amazing with  so many varieties and colors.  Enjoy the Indian summer.
