It's been a while......

When it rains it pours! I have been working on so many projects that I am not painting on my own work as often as I would like. Lots of commissions lately.  My print business has been really taking off and I find myself needing a larger space but I so love working from home.  My mother (soon to be 92)  has been moved to Kennebunk Maine to be closer to my three older sisters as she  has been declining both mentally and physically. I try to see her once a week .   At the same time,  Sam has been going through another rough patch but is starting to get better.    I am so grateful for that.

This new painting was inspired by a family  I came across on Instagram.    The mom  posts such wonderful everyday  scenes of life with 6 children! I am from a family of  seven BTW.  I was totally inspired by their amazing old world shabby chic home. in England.   This piece "Family Portrait" is 20x16 painted on a cradled wood panel with painted sides.  It would make a great mother's day gift.
Thanks for looking and have a nice day today.

I Love You~new original painting

I had the idea to create a small painting about "Love." I love themes if you haven't guessed.    Although this would have been a great painting for Valentine's Day, any day is a day for Love.  Leo, the Italian cat, (as we refer to him)  made an appearance.  This is a sweet little piece 8x10 surely to bring LOVE to anyone who........................

Her mind is Tiffany twisted. - The Eagles, Hotel California

I couldn't resist pairing this painting with that quote from the Eagles.  I am back from vacation ready to tackle a few more commissions.  I am also creating a body of work that will be available exclusively through a new gallery in South Carolina due to open sometime in October.  I'll keep you posted about that when the time comes.  I love the fall.  Thank you for stopping by.  Catherine

Lady Elaine-Original Painting

I've been trying to clean up my computer which has multiple copies of paintings and prints, and lots of things that just slow it way down.  In the process,  I came across this painting from a few years back that I had forgotten about.  I named it after a woman I use to work with at least 20 years ago at an upscale clothing store.  She had a fantastic sense of style and a wonderful sense of humor. I couldn't wait to see what she was wearing each day.   She made a huge impression on me then.  I referred to her as  "Lady Elaine."

Critics Inside My Head~New Original painting

This is my newest painting.  I've had this idea for a while and finally had the chance to execute.  She's sort of a Snow White or a Rose Red maybe.  This painting is 14x11 painted on stretched canvas.  Thanks for looking.

The Magic Hat-Original Painting

I'm so happy that I was able to finish this painting today. I will be bringing it along with the rest of my new work to Boston this Sunday.    This will be my 11 year participating in the Beacon Hill Art Walk.  Last year the weather was glorious and so many of my good friends and customers stopped by.  This painting is 14x11 painted with acrylics on stretched canvas.  The sides have been painted and it's wired and ready to hang!  Thanks for looking.

Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything that is beautiful, for beauty is God’s handwriting — a wayside sacrament. Welcome it in every fair face, in every fair sky, in every flower, and thank God for it as a cup of blessing.

Right now it's difficult for me to meditate on those words.  We are awaiting a very important medical appointment on Monday for Sam.  It's been so hard to wait  since he's been having such a difficult time and we want answers.
Inspiration to work has been pretty low up until yesterday.  Perhaps a commission for a young girl, who has been through so much and persevered, has helped.
The painting above has sold.
Thanks for stopping by.  Catherine

Eternal Balance

It's been a long weekend.  Sam has been going through a very difficult time and today was the first "good" day he has had in a long time.  It gave me the hope I needed.   Having balance is so important, even when you absolutely love what you do for work.

Be the first to the field and the last to the couch. Chinese proverb

I plan on doing another chinoiserie style piece in the weeks to come.  This is a painting I did in October of last year. However, since it's the weekend, I wish the opposite of this quote! Catherine

Leo and The Baroness-Original painting by Catherine Nolin

This is my new painting. My valentines painting a day late.   I remember a time that I didn't like the combination of red and pink but I am loving it these days.  Love a  red lacquer chest  as well.  Leo seems to find his way into my paintings here and there.  He's just so darn cute.  This painting is for sale in my etsy shop.  www.catherine47.etsy.com

Meet the newest intern at Catherine Nolin Art Studio

When I told my husband I was thinking about  hiring an assistant, this isn't exactly what I had in mind. Meet Leo, as in Da Vinci.  Since  Monday is my birthday, I wasn't too surprised to see a box with a big bow left at my front door yesterday.   The thought of a kitten never crossed my mind. I was thinking smart phone or maybe even Ipad!  Scott really stumped me this year and I am thrilled.
As I was trying to paint yesterday, Leo was having  a great time playing with my paint brushes and rolled up scrap paper and bubble wrap. ( An art studio for a cat is  probably a close second to catnip.)  I have a feeling I won't be getting as much done with this particular intern unless I can teach him to use the printer and go to the post office.
