On my easel

This is what I've been working on lately.  A large piece 36x48 canvas.  I must admit I'm getting some inspiration from Downton Abbey.  You may recognize the black Chinoiserie type high boy bureau on the right and the wall color.    I still have a long way to go with this piece but so far I am quite pleased with the progress.  It's my  Roman version of a Downton Abbey! Thanks for stopping by.

Lady Elaine-Original Painting

I've been trying to clean up my computer which has multiple copies of paintings and prints, and lots of things that just slow it way down.  In the process,  I came across this painting from a few years back that I had forgotten about.  I named it after a woman I use to work with at least 20 years ago at an upscale clothing store.  She had a fantastic sense of style and a wonderful sense of humor. I couldn't wait to see what she was wearing each day.   She made a huge impression on me then.  I referred to her as  "Lady Elaine."

Taking a Break ~Even from something you love to do!

Seems like time is speeding up these days.  Sam is back to school after a very pleasantly surprising week off.  I can still see his crooked smile when I close my eyes.  (Smiles don't come easy for Sam:)
I am back in my studio today.  As much as I missed my work these past 10 days,  I realize how important it is to step back and take a break. (Even from something you love!) I am recharged and so full of inspiration once again.  Right now I am working on a  commission piece that is coming along quite nicely.   I will not be posting any new work for a few weeks but I also have a lot exciting changes that will be happening to my etsy shop soon.  Thanks for stopping by.

Paris Apartment~New original Painting

I wasn't sure I was actually going to finish this piece today since I was stuck in traffic all morning and then came home and began cleaning my house instead of painting .  This is somethings that happens quite frequently although my house never looks clean or organized these days.
This painting is 11x14 executed with acrylics on stretched canvas.  The sides are painted so no frame is needed and it's wired and ready to hang but I think this one needs a pretty frame!  Thanks for looking.

Botanical Still Life-Original painting by Catherine Nolin

I spent Sunday working on this painting and was able to finish it today.  I felt very guilty in my studio all day yesterday while my husband raked the yard and then went on a hike alone. .  It was 60 degrees you know.  As I painted I kept thinking about the snow and cold and how hard it makes everything.  I thought about my mother who won’t be able to go out much once winter really sets in.  I guess that’s why I felt compelled to paint  a bouquet of flowers.
                                  Maybe purchased at www.catherinenolin.org
This piece  is 8x10 painted with acrylics on stretched canvas.  The sides have been painted so no frame is needed.  Wired and ready to hang.

Nature Network

All winter my husband and I were talking and planning out our garden for the upcoming season.
As I get ready to turn on the heat I realize how fast it all went by.  This weekend we were suppose to put the garden to rest but felt a bit unmotivated.  My two sons did manage to take down a rather large air conditioner.  The leaves have completely covered the grass but that too will have to wait another week.  Anyway, when I look at this piece that I painted in early spring it reminds me of our garden and the beautiful birds that showed up and sang songs each day .
This painting  was 16x20 and has sold.

Zebras and Vases

The weather is looking good on Saturday for Art in The Park in South Portland Maine.      As you can see, I have been in my groove.  I must say that I enjoyed painting this piece very much.  In keeping with my more relaxed, abstract, painterly approach (thank you Henri) It’s all about the colors and the movement.  This painting is 16x20 painted on canvas.  For sale in my Etsy shop or some see it in person in South Portland Saturday.

New Tree Of Life

Today I was able to complete this painting despite feeling a bit under the weather.   By the time I finished I was feeling much better.  I guess nature heals.   Painted on linen with acrylics.  11x14 and the sides have been painted so no frame is needed.

Sophia's Pagoda Vase Is Empty

Must be Friday since I have completed  another painting. Sophia needs some flowers for her vase. She is fortunate that she can simply walk outside and have her pick. Can you tell what my influences were for this piece?  Hopefully, like Sophia,  I will be able to walk outside and have my pick of flowers once the sun comes back!  This new painting is 11x14 done on stretched canvas for sale in my Etsy  Shop.
Have a wonderful weekend. Thanks for stopping by.

Earth Tones New painting

I wish I owned this white couch and the pillow too.  This is my newest painting.  It has a little bit for everyone!  Oceans, earth, stars,  birds, telescopes and an  interior scene.  I have been drawn to more muted earth tones lately.  This could be a holding pattern.  This painting is 11x14 for sale in my Etsy shop.

This is the first in a series of painting I am hoping to do over the next few weeks before the start of my summer art show season.  This is my sister Rosalie.  She is the second oldest of my FIVE sisters.  Here she is in her element.

Susan Interrupted

I came across a great old photo of my mother Susan DeQuattro the other day.  It was taken when she 20 years old.   She already had   three young daughters.  Such an iconic image of her.   A time of beautiful clothing, with attention to details.   I am daughter number 6, and yes there is a 7th, a son.
She is almost 83 years old now, still drives to the Mass everyday as long as the weather permits.  She may have become "Susan Interrupted "raising 7 children, but now she has 7 grown  children all around her.

Nature Network

I have had many requests to create some larger botanical, bird themed paintings. Therefore,  I am very excited to post this new painting today.  The colors are more vivid and luscious  in person .  It was such a joy for me creating this special painting.  The dimensions are 20 across by 16 long.  painted on stretched canvas.  The sides have been painted so no frame is needed.

Growing Pains

I decided to go in a more whimsical direction with this latest painting.     I wanted to bring together my love of interiors, textiles and nature (I know very Matisse like .)  You can make up your own story as you look at this seated woman.  She ended up looking a lot like my third oldest sister Susan in a way.  This was not my intent but it works for many reasons.
This painting is 11x14 .  stretched canvas.  For sale in my etsy shop

Story Of A Flower II

This is another variation of a painting I did a while back.  I wanted to mix my love of Middle Eastern and  Asian design within the flower.  This painting is 11x14 painted on stretched cotton and linen.  The sides have been painted so no frame is needed.  For sale in my Etsy shop

Chinoiserie Bouquet

This is one of two new paintings I've been working on. Ever since returning from my show in NYC I have been caught up with surface texture and depth of color. I've been doing a lot of experimenting which is why I haven't posted anything new until now. I am very excited about my next series of paintings. I feel as though I am reaching a new stage in my work! As long as the doors keep opening~ I am gratefully walking through them! Chinoiserie Bouquet is 8x10 painted on stretched cotton and linen and will be for sale in my Etsy shop.

October 2nd and 3 rd I will be showing my work in beautiful Pound Ridge New York, (Westchester County) at the "Pound Ridge Fine Art and Craft Show."
