New Painting~"Restless Minds"

I just finished this piece about an hour ago.   The photo actually picked up all the color fleck and detail nicely this time.  I thought of the title just a few minutes ago but I think it works      Since this was a large piece, 24x36,  I was able to combine my love of different period furnishings and architecture.      I love the way landscapes and clouds were painted during the Renaissance period.  I paint what I love.  Beautiful blue Hydrangea reminds me of summers in Cape Cod.  Lilies of the Valley that would just pop up despite our crazy unkempt yard. Ruby shoes just because I like the way they look. I saw the Chinoiserie high boy on Downton Abbey!   This painting was created with acrylics on stretched canvas.  It's for sale on my website www.catherinenolin.org

Song quote and art of the day.

,
                                                     And here, she's acting happy,
                                                      Inside her handsome home.
And me, I'm flying in my taxi,

I have always loved this song.  Thanks for stopping by.  Catherine

art and quote of the day.......

Home is a place not only of strong affections, but of entire unreserve; it is life's undress rehearsal, its backroom, its dressing room. ~Harriet Beecher Stowe

While cleaning up the folders on my computer I came across this commission I did in the fall of 2011.  Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.  Catherine

On my easel

This is what I've been working on lately.  A large piece 36x48 canvas.  I must admit I'm getting some inspiration from Downton Abbey.  You may recognize the black Chinoiserie type high boy bureau on the right and the wall color.    I still have a long way to go with this piece but so far I am quite pleased with the progress.  It's my  Roman version of a Downton Abbey! Thanks for stopping by.

Donatella's Arrival~New Work

I have so much to say about this painting.  First of all, I wish you could see her in person because again,  my photograph does not fully capture the details.  I was definitely inspired  by some Frida Kahlo paintings  as well as vintage fashion photography.  Love Pinterest!   I wanted to bring together my love of flowers, with textiles, and fashion.  People often ask me who the women are in my paintings.  I have no idea~they just evolve but  all look a bit similar I think. Going forward I plan on doing more work that reflects my Italian heritage.   This painting is 20x24 painted on a cradled birch wood panel.  The sides are painted to match therefore it can be left unframed if desired.  Thank you for looking.  Catherine

I've been working on a new piece I am pretty excited about.  For now here is a painting I did back in the spring of 2011.  This piece has sold.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference. Rober Frost
