Swinging Susan

My mother was quite glamorous in her day. I love looking at glossy black and white photos of she and my father out with friends usually at swanky dinner clubs. Reminds me now of something out of Mad Men. She was always beautifully dressed but in almost every photo her eyes were closed! Always anticipating the flash I suppose. I have painted her here swinging above a lovely garden with an Islandus falcon keeping watch. This painting is 11x14 painted on stretched canvas with acrylics. The sides have been painted so no frame is needed. Wired and ready to hang.

In the studio ~ What I am working on..............

This new piece should be completed by tomorrow.  There is a story here to tell.   As you can see, Leo, my new assistant, has become a  bit of a distraction.  My studio with all it's nooks and crannies is a major playground for him.  Hope you are having a great weekend!

Nature Network

All winter my husband and I were talking and planning out our garden for the upcoming season.
As I get ready to turn on the heat I realize how fast it all went by.  This weekend we were suppose to put the garden to rest but felt a bit unmotivated.  My two sons did manage to take down a rather large air conditioner.  The leaves have completely covered the grass but that too will have to wait another week.  Anyway, when I look at this piece that I painted in early spring it reminds me of our garden and the beautiful birds that showed up and sang songs each day .
This painting  was 16x20 and has sold.

The Piano Lesson

Leo our new kitten is making it difficult for me to get things done but I managed.  This is my new painting. Meet Margret , (Leo is on top of the piano) she is waiting for her lesson to begin but her teacher seems to be late.  Maybe he is lost in the topiary garden?  This painting is 11x14 painted with acrylic on stretched canvas.

New Years Eve in New York

This is a reproduction from an original painting.

Meet the newest intern at Catherine Nolin Art Studio

When I told my husband I was thinking about  hiring an assistant, this isn't exactly what I had in mind. Meet Leo, as in Da Vinci.  Since  Monday is my birthday, I wasn't too surprised to see a box with a big bow left at my front door yesterday.   The thought of a kitten never crossed my mind. I was thinking smart phone or maybe even Ipad!  Scott really stumped me this year and I am thrilled.
As I was trying to paint yesterday, Leo was having  a great time playing with my paint brushes and rolled up scrap paper and bubble wrap. ( An art studio for a cat is  probably a close second to catnip.)  I have a feeling I won't be getting as much done with this particular intern unless I can teach him to use the printer and go to the post office.

Leopard In The House

This is my latest painting.  It is 20x16 painted with acrylics on stretched canvas.  I seem to be in my "animal period" these days. I am having a good time creating these dream rooms.  There is a lot going on here I know.  It's up for interpretation. I'd like to hear from you! Catherine

What a difference a day makes.

What a difference a day makes.   Last weekend, while at the movies   I started experiencing some vision issues in my left eye which I ignored.  A few days later   I started noticing some numbness on my left side of my face at which point I began to worry a bit but still kept going about my day.  It wasn’t until my husband came home from work that evening did I end up going to the ER upon his request (demand).
To make a long story short, I was admitted so that they could do a series of tests to rule out that I wasn’t having a stroke or even the beginnings of an aneurism!  The thought that my life could change in an instant was horrifying.   The thought of not being able to function and do all the things I do never crossed my mind until that moment.  Many of us take our health and our bodies so for granted each day.   After staying overnight in the hospital all the tests were negative   According to the neurologist, it may have been a migraine variant.  It was certainly a wake up call for me to stop putting off the 30 minute walk I said I was going to start doing each morning (about three years ago) since I’ve gained some weigh and I have a sedentary job.  As a painter, I sometimes sit for hours and hours getting so caught up in my work I have no idea how long it has been!  The day I left the hospital was a new beginning for me.   Thanks for listening but I have to go now for my walk!

PS. I am working on such a great new painting I can’t wait to post it.
