Summer Reading

What can I say.  Sometimes it seems like my brush has a life of it's own.  This painting took  many twists and turns but I am so glad I was able to complete it.  I am taking a little break while my son is home for the next week.   As much as I love to paint and I am looking forward to spending time with Sam. Hopper is another favorite painter of mine. I suppose I have the Cape on my mind these days as well!   This painting is 11x14 painted on canvas. For sale in my Etsy shop.

Sleep Study

By now you must realize that I am obsessed with pagoda vases and orange sofas!  Here is my newest painting.  Glad I finished it early enough this morning so I can concentrate on   another smaller piece and hopefully complete it as well.   Sleep Study is 16x20 painted on stretched gallery wrapped canvas.  For sale in my Etsy shop.

Sneak Peak of my newest painting.

I have just a few more details to do on this painting. What do you think?  I love the cat.  I use to have one just like it.  When we got our yellow lab, he decided to take off.  My kids swear they still see him living a few streets down.   Anyway, tomorrow this painting will have a proper post.

Sorry blog

I have not been faithful to my blog lately.  Partly because I have been on a creative spree and just can't seem to stop long enough to say anything!  Also, my youngest son Samuel will be home for 9 days starting July 2nd for his school break and I will not be able to do anything else except care for him during that time.  I am a bit anxious about having him home since I don't really have help that week.  It's my own fault for not thinking ahead and planning but it seemed to come out of no where.  I will be OK and probably gain some good insight through the process.  being with Sam really helps put things into perspective for me.
This is a commission I finished a few days ago.  I am working on a 16x20 botanical piece that I hope to finish this weekend.
July 23rd is The Manchester By The Sea Fine Art Festival.  I am really looking forward to this event.  It was a big success last year.  Manchester By The Sea is a beautiful little town on the North Shore of Massachusetts.

Interior Montage

Here is my latest creation.    I have combined   a few of my favorite things.   The painting within my painting is taken from  Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres,” La Grand Odalisque”.  I have always admired this painting perhaps because of the lovely use of color and fabrics against the cream flesh tones of the woman.  (I also learned  that she is part of a harem:)  It was the starting point for my painting.    The wallpaper is adapted from a common  reinassance period  decorative design.  I enjoy creating an outdoor world along with my interior scenes.   Thanks for taking a look.

Beacon Hill Art Walk

Last Sunday was my 9th year participating in the Beacon Hill Art Walk.  The weather was perfect and I got a chance to see so many old friends and meet  many new ones too.  I said goodbye to some of my most favorite paintings but I know they are going to good homes.  I also one third prize this year ! ( I have a feeling though that they gave out more than one third prize.)  It's back to the studio for me.    I am busy working on some new commission pieces as well as a pretty exciting painting  I can't wait to share- hopefully this week sometime.  My next show is Manchester By The Sea at the end of July.
I can honestly say TGIM  *THANK GOD IT'S MONDAY*

A Calling at 49

Calling at 49.

About three years ago you could find my husband sitting in front of the TV , eating sausage pizza setting out to watch every episode of the Sopranos from all ( I think it’s 9 )seasons  on the weekends.  Now you can find my vegetarian, tree hugging husband working on his organic garden from dawn till dusk. He’s only just begun.  A work in progress.  Oh and by the way he’s also colorblind.

Claire's Leaving Home

This is the last painting I will be posting before my show in Boston this Sunday.    I am forever inspired by so many Beatle songs.   “She’s Leaving Home,” (one of my favorites) is what helped me come up with the idea for this woman whom I have named Claire. Claire’s leaving home after living alone for so many years.  I decided to paint her in an early Picasso type style which I like very much.  This painting is 16x20 painted on canvas.
